Freedom in Giving Without Expectation

“When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’” (Luke 17:10)

There is a natural inclination many of us have to give to others with the expectation of receiving something in return. This can be the case in our relationship with both God and others. In his homily on the memorial of St Marin of Tours,  Fr Roman Wroblewski explains why we should learn to give freely, with no expectation of getting anything back.
