St David of Wales was born in the fifth century at Menevia (now St David’s), Wales. He is known for being a priest, engaging in missionary work and founded many monasteries, including his principal abbey in southwestern Wales. David is one of the well-known British saints. He died around the sixth century and was later canonized by Pope Callistus III in the year 1120. David is the patron saint of Wales.
