St Frances Cabrini was born in Italy in 1850. She is known for her dedication to working with the poor, the abandoned, the uneducated and the sick. Frances founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart to care for poor children in schools and hospitals and set up 67 institutions during her time. At the assistance of Pope Leo XIII she came to the United States with six nuns to work among the Italian immigrants. Francis died from malaria in 1917 and was elevated to sainthood in 1946, the first American citizen to be canonised. Frances is the patron saint of immigrants.
