Mystery of Self Deception: Pt 1

0

Adam and EveThe heart is deceitful above all things, who can understand it?” said Jeremiah (Jer.17:9), but some centuries later St John tells us that Jesus did, and because of that he would not entrust himself to the people (John 2:24).

In this three part series presented at the Catholic Institute of Sydney , Dr Robert Tilley explores human beings after the fall, and our tendency to deceive both ourselves and others. He looks at the signs, causes and consequences of self deception, as well as the antidote.

This first talk is entitled ‘“The heart is desperately wicked, who can understand it?”: A Biblical Theology of Self-Deception.’

Dr Robert Tilley is a lecturer in biblical studies and ancient languages at the Catholic Institute of Sydney and in Christian literature at the Aquinas Academy.
