St Joan of the Cross

St Joan of the Cross was born in 1666 in Anjou, France. She was known for dedicating her life to the service of the poor, elderly and sick. Joan founded what came to be known as the Congregation of St. Anne of Providence. In her time she also founded 12 religious houses, hospices and schools. St Joan of the Cross died in 1736 and was canonised by Pope John Paul II in 1982.
