Pope to open Aussie Pilgrim Centre

TONIGHT: DOMUS AUSTRALIA, Australia’s new pilgrim centre in Rome is to be open by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI 5:30pm (AEDT 2:30am/Adelaide 2:00am/Perth 11:30pm). The event is to be broadcast live on Catholic website Xt3. Archdiocese of Sydney Catholic Communications reports:

“This is Australia’s first religious and cultural pilgrim centre in Rome and guests from Australia will join those from Rome in welcoming the Holy Father. Cardinal George Pell will greet Pope Benedict and escort him to the centre’s beautifully restored St Peter Chanel chapel while the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir, which has travelled to Rome for the event, sings the first hymn. The Holy Father will address the gathering before giving his Papal blessing. Guests will include Australia’s first resident Ambassador to the Holy See, Tim Fischer as well as Cardinals and Senior Clergy of the Vatican, the Australian bishops attending the ad limina in Rome, Australian religious and clergy living, working or studying in Rome.”
