What’s Bringing Young People Back to the Church?

As we look around our parishes many of us might find ourselves becoming discouraged at the ageing congregation and the lack of youth attendance. For those of us who have been moved to do something about it, we’ve probably wondered what can be done: what will bring young people back to the Church?

For Ignite Youth Coordinator Scotty McDonald coming back to the faith was a matter of personal witness.

“It was a level of genuineness… it wasn’t this unattaible faith, and it wasn’t people trying to tell me what to do,” Scotty said.

Now he tries to apply his own experience in his own ministry.

“For me it is about the person who’s not already connected… always starting with an invitation to the relationship. That there’s never an expectation that people would be at a certain level, but just letting them know that no matter where they’re at, they’re welcome to be a part of this ministry”.

In this interview with Scotty we look at his own story, the challenges of evangelising to young people, and the work Ignite Youth are doing up in Brisbane.
