Karl Schmude looks at the independent scholar in recent centuries and his contributions, as well as how changing approaches in the university affect the capacity and existence of the scholar. Schmude also explores the contributions of faith and religion to scholars, drawing from examples from intellectual figures such as Christopher Dawson.
