St Peter Chanel

St Peter Chanel was born in Clet, France on the 12 July 1803. His is known for being a Marist priest and for his missionary work in foreign lands, preaching the Gospel. Peter was serene, gentle, patient and courageous man. He was clubbed to death on the 28 April 1841. Two years later, the Futuna Islands for which he did his missionary work became Catholic and has remained so to this day. He was canonised in 1954 by Pope Pius XII. St Peter Chanel is the martyr of Oceania and its patron saint.
