St Mark the Evangelist

2

St Mark the Evangelist, also known as John-Mark is well-known as being  the author of the oldest and shortest Gospel in the Bible. It was written in Rome between 60-70 AD for a Gentile audience. He was a disciple of St Peter and together they travelled to Rome. Peter refers to St Mark as “my son” in one of his letters, presumably meaning a son in faith. He was an associate of St Paul and St Barnabas while on their first missionary journey to Cyprus. It is reported that he was the first Bishop of Alexandria and Egypt. St Mark died a martyr on the 25 April 68 AD and is the patron saint of notaries.
