St Edmund of East Anglia

St Edmund of East Anglia was born around 841 in Nuremberg, Germany. He is known as the King of East Anglia. He was crowned on Christmas Day 855 at the age of fourteen. Edmund was a model ruler who was concerned with justice for his people and his own spirituality. He spent a year in Hunstanton learning the Psalter by heart. Following one of a series of armed engagement with invading Danes, he was captured. He was ordered to give his Christian people to the pagan invaders; he refused and was martyred in 870. He is the patron of various kings.
