Saint Raymond of Peñafort, O.P. (c. 1175 – 6 January 1275) is a Dominican friar who compiled the Decretals of Gregory IX, a collection of canon laws that remained part of church law until the Code of Canon Law was promulgated in 1917. He is the patron saint of canon lawyers, specifically, and lawyers.
