Feast of the Visitation

1

Feast of the Visitation commemorates Our Lady’s visit to her cousin, Elizabeth, who was six months pregnant with St. John the Baptist at the time. The meeting of Mary and Elizabeth was also a meeting of the children they were carrying, the Saviour and the precursor. John the Baptist leapt for joy in his mother’s womb. Mary brings the hidden presence of Jesus to the home of her relatives. Today she still presents Jesus to the world as our spiritual mother. This feast day goes back to the 13th or 14th century. It was established throughout the Church to pray for unity.
