Blessed Angela Salawa was born in Siepraw, a village in Southern Poland on the 9th September 1881. She is known for her work during World War I where she helped prisoners of war without regard for their nationality or religion. The writings of St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross were a great comfort to Angela during this time. Prior to World War I, she became a Secular Order Franciscan. Blessed Angela Salawa died on the 12th March 1922 in Krakow, Poland and was later beatified by St John Paul II in 1991.
