Blessed Mary Frances Schervier was born 1819 and is well-known for establishing a community of sisters who care for the sick and aged in the United States and throughout the world. They are known as the Sisters of the Poor of St Francis. Her reputation for being generous to the poor began when Frances ran the household after her mother’s death. Frances has also helped her sisters nursed the soldiers during the civil war. To this day, her order is still engaged in operating hospitals and homes for the aged. She died in 1876 and was beatified in 1974.
