St Juan Diego was born in 1474. He was an indigenous Mexican who is well-known for reporting a Marian apparition, Our Lady of Guadalupe, in 1531. The apparition has had a significant impact on the spread of the Catholic faith within Mexico. Juan died of natural causes in 1548 and was canonized in 2002. He is the first indigenous American saint.
