St Egwin was born in Worcester, England around the 7th century. He was of a noble family and was a descendant of Mercian kings. He may possibly have been a nephew of King Æthelred of Mercia. He consecrated himself to God when he was in his youth. He is known for being the founder of the Evesham Abbey and was consecrated bishop of Worcester, England in 693. He struggled with the local population over the acceptance of Christian morality; especially Christian marriage and clerical celibacy. He died in 717.
