WYD Rio is Officially Opened

Photo courtesy Salt + LightTuesday evening local time hundreds of thousands of Catholics gathered on Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro for the World Youth Day opening Mass.

The Mass was celebrated by Rio’s Archbishop Orani Joao Tempesta, and officially opened with an address by Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
